I grew up in Bountiful, Utah, (near Salt Lake City). I studied 10+ years of private piano lessons and 8 years of private voice lessons, played the french horn and trumpet in junior high and high school band. I have studied voice under Dr. Carol Ann Allred in Salt Lake City, UT, and Richard Teaster in Pittsburgh, PA.
I earned my undergraduate degree in December of 2010 in Choral Music Education from the University of Utah. Then, I moved to Circleville, Utah, in 2011, to work for Piute School District, where I taught general music to kids in K-4th grade, band in 5-6th grade, and choir, band, music theory and guitar at the high school. There, I directed Phantom of the Opera, Oklahoma!, CLUE: The Musical, and Disney's High School Musical! In 2014, we relocated to Pittsburgh PA, where I earned my Master's of Music Education with a vocal emphasis at Carnegie Mellon University. I was the graduate assistant to Thomas Douglas, who is the music director for CMU's drama department, which is currently the #1 drama department in the nation.
I have ran a community theatre, Palisade Playhouse, since 2016, and will be moving it to Idaho with my family. With Palisade Playhouse, I directed and did music for Clue: the musical, Annie, White Christmas, Oklahoma!, and Big Fish, and directed 6 community choir concerts and 2 summers of musical theatre summer camps for kids.
My wife, Michelle, and I both love teaching music. With an undergraduate degree in human development, and a minor in music from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, she taught music at Antimony Elementary (Antimony, Utah,) and she taught private voice lessons, before falling in love with teaching Let's Play Music, a group piano, singing, and music theory course for 4-7 year olds. We have two beautiful children. Maggie is 9, and she plays the ukulele and loves art and baking. Mason is 7 and loves race cars and reading.
